Modern Perimeter Security Technologies: Advantages of Fiber-Optic Solutions
When discussing perimeter security systems, including anti-terrorist protection for industrial facilities, solutions based on copper cables (vibration protection) and radio-location technologies are often mentioned. However, there is an interesting and promising type of technology based on fiber-optic cables, which has been developing rapidly.
Today, fiber-optic systems have accumulated over 15 years of operational experience at distances of up to 100 km. Recently, due to the simplification of the technology, excellent solutions have emerged for protecting perimeters up to 10 km in length. Compared to copper cable solutions, fiber-optic systems offer significantly better protection against electromagnetic interference and have a longer lifespan. Standard fiber-optic cables are used, which have become quite affordable. Despite the high cost of precision laser technology, the use of standard cables makes the solution much more cost-effective, especially for perimeter lengths of 5 to 10 km.
Unlike radio-location systems, fiber-optic technologies are highly resistant to electromagnetic fluctuations and adverse weather conditions such as snow and rain. The impact of external factors is minimal, ensuring stable and reliable perimeter protection regardless of the weather.
